Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman was an Indian physicist who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930 for his work on the scattering of light. He is best known for the discovery of the Raman effect, which is the inelastic scattering of light, and for his pioneering work in the field of spectroscopy. Some of his other important contributions include the discovery of the Raman-Nath theory, which explains the diffraction of light by sound waves, and the development of the Raman spectroscopy technique, which is used to study the vibrational, rotational, and other low-frequency modes in a system.
