Daniel Defoe

‘Daniel Defoe’ was born in 1660. His original name was Daniel Foe. His father, James Foe, was a member of the Butchers’ Company. Daniel Defoe worked in a number of trades before he started to write, at the age of forty.

Daniel Defoe wrote poems and occasionally criticisms of the Government. Sometimes he was nearly sixty he wrote the story of ‘Robinson Crusoe’. It was a great success and has been popular with children ever since. It is the first great English novel. Daniel Defoe wrote more than 500 books, pamphlets, and journals on various topics. He died on 4 April 1731 in London, England.
