Kartik Purnima
‘Kartik Purnima’ is a famous Hindu festival. This festival is celebrated all over India with great pomp and show. According to the Hindu calendar, this festival is celebrated on the full moon of Kartik month.
Kartik Purnima is also known as ‘Tripuri Purnima’ or ‘Ganga Snan’. This Purnima has been termed as Tripuri Purnima because it was on this day that Lord Bholenath ended the Tripurasura demon and was worshiped as Tripurari.
Kartik Purnima is considered to be one of the most prominent festivals in India, which holds the most important place for the three major communities in India. People of Hindu, Jain, and Sikh communities celebrate this festival in their own way.
Kartik Purnima is also special because Lord Vishnu took his first incarnation on this day. On this day, the Sikh community celebrates the birthday of their first guru, ‘Guru Nanak Dev. People of the Sikh community take a bath in the morning and listen to Guruvani. This festival is also called ‘Guru Parva’.
On the day of Kartik Purnima, Kartik fasts are completed after the Kartik Purnima bath. Bathing in holy rivers, worshiping in temples and Shabad Kirtan in Gurudwaras, etc., many programs run throughout the day. It is believed that bathing, donation, home, worship, etc. performed on Kartik Purnima have infinite fruits.
